Getting Your Church's Ministry to Men Off The Ground Effective men’s ministries which are operated within the structure of a local church will always approach men as the unique individuals which they are. Successful ministry units will always seek the support of the pastor and the key leadership team during all phases of development and growth. Pastoral support and participation are essential if the ministry is going to endure, and be an asset to the church. While there are many good models for building a healthy and effective ministry, we would like to recommend that you consider this plan. A comprehensive 4 hour training session is available to help any core group get their ministry started. Following is a brief overview of what you and your team will learn during the 4 hour session. First: you’ll learn why a solid ministry to men is important and why every church and its leadership team must consider such a step if they intend to be a healthy and growing entity. Second: you’ll focus on understanding the simple and important vision of a local men's ministry unit, and see how it differs with the focus of many local men’s groups. You’ll also become acquainted with the goals which every local men’s ministry unit should be striving for. Third: you’ll see why Pastoral support is essential, and as a Pastor you will be given some specific action-steps needed to ensure the long-term viability of the men’s ministry you are working to build. Fourth: You will have the chance to understand men by understanding their basic needs. The needs which every man has, and which cross cultural and religious barriers. Your neighbor, your coworkers and your pastor and you yourself all have these same basic needs. Knowing this gives you tremendous insights in speaking with men at their points of sensitivity. It also gives you an edge when speaking with men who may question their need to become involved in meaningful relationships with a few other men. Fifth: you will consider a men’s ministry reproduction cycle; that is the process by which men are brought into the Kingdom and then developed into maturity, encouraged and equipped to serve within the local church, and finally released into the world to begin the process again with another man. This 4 base model of winning, developing, preparing, and releasing men to minister is the full-circle discipleship method needed to grow a healthy church. The sixth item of consideration deals with problems you and your core team can expect to encounter when moving ahead with your plans. You’ll also be evaluating some important facts about discipleship; facts which are at the heart of the whole process. As you move deeper into the process, your seventh basic item of study will be the core values and objectives of your ministry. At this point, you will begin to personalize your ministry, tailoring it to your unique setting and constituency. As you begin to develop and excitement about where your local ministry can go, and what it can do to help the men in your church and in your community, you’ll appreciate step eight: the review of basic organizational structure which prevents any one or two men from burning out while attempting to do too much. Men's ministry is a team oriented ministry, with men serving in a variety of capacities. As a Pastor, you will find it particularly comforting to learn that you are not expected to carry the load alone, or even to carry the bulk of the load. Because ministry to men is unique, any group which attempts to meet the true spiritual needs of its men will need to understand how men are unique – and how they differ from women. The ninth step of you training will cover the ways in which men generally deal with situations, and the ways in which they function. Attempts to implement any successful ministry must consistently take into consideration these general masculine attributes. As we move toward the home stretch in the training, we’ll cover a very helpful commitment evaluation; one which gives you as a team leader a way to evaluate the present commitment of each man you will be ministering to. In conjunction with that, you’ll consider ways in which your programs and activities can gradually move men to higher and deeper levels of commitment and relational intimacy with God and with other men. The final phase of the training is perhaps the most fun and exciting. In it, you and your team members will sit together to begin developing the purpose and procedures which will take you into the future which God has in store for your men. Let me strongly recommend to you that the C&MA Men's Ministry Blueprint training is an excellent way to get your local men’s ministry started, and a great way to evaluate an existing ministry in terms of its Kingdom effectiveness. No matter where your local unit is on the continuum from nothing at all to something pretty big, this training material is well worth the necessary investment of time and finance.
